we recently spoke with BRITTANY GILES OF FITXBRIT to learn how she is amplifying her voice through her brand.

My voice deserves to be heard because....

I really have a lot to say. I am confident that my purpose in life is to educate people whether that be in the classroom setting, or as it relates to nutritional or mental health. I have a passion for helping others that I know could only come from God. So, as much as I know that my voice deserves to be heard, I am also okay with being patient with the process and knowing that there is a bigger plan.

Finding your voice means to listen to your gut, ask questions, and be bold in your decisions.

What does finding your voice mean to you?

I really found my voice the day I found out that I was pregnant with my now two- year-old, Peyton. Knowing that someone else is counting on me and rooting for me really saved me from myself. It was then that I knew that I could no longer just exist, I needed to walk in my purpose and focus on the things that I am passionate about because, at that point, I knew I had no more time to waste. From that point on, I have been on a constant journey for fulfillment and each day brings me one step closer to my ultimate goal...PEACE.

Did your upbringing shape who you are today?

My upbringing had a huge effect on who I am today, both to my advantage and my disadvantage, if I am being transparent. Growing up the daughter of a therapist and a police officer in the middle of suburbia created a safe atmosphere where I was afforded a number of things that I took for granted. I lived the first 20 years of my life assuming that everyone pretty much lived like me. It wasn’t until college and stepping out into the real world on my own that I learned that everything is not going to be handed to me and that everyone does not think or live like Brittany. While I am super grateful that my parents sacrificed their dreams and time to make sure that I grew up well, I still feel like I missed out on some practical life skills that still haunt me to this day.

Describe your journey? What was your defining moment?

As a full-time teacher, I've learned the importance of a commitment to something greater than myself. After becoming a mother to my beautiful daughter Peyton ( my defining moment) in 2014, I became aware of how hard it is to balance work, life, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  It's difficult, but not impossible.

Advice to someone in search of finding their voice in the entrepreneurial, influencer and creative space.

The main advice that I would give to anyone trying to find their voice in this creative space is to keep your blinders on. It is so easy to compare your journey to others, to the extent that you risk losing your own voice. Know that no matter who may doing something similar to what you are doing they will NEVER be you. So, staying true to yourself is my biggest takeaway from the almost three years I have been on the scene and the almost two years I have been official in this blogging/influencer game.

Who is_______?

Well, I am Fit Brit, Peyton’s mom, Child of God, full-time government teacher, sister, and friend. I love cheese, have an addictive personality, and a love for helping others. I've always been conscious about my eating habits, but three years ago I started on an amazing fitness journey that has now led to the creation of my own company. FitXBrit (pronounced "Fit by Brit") was built on my belief that to create the lasting change I had to have a motive.  One that lasted beyond the seasonal goal of a "summer body" or a 10-pound cosmetic shift.  I had a desire to change the way I looked at fitness for life. Weekly goal-oriented meal preparation, a desire to eat smarter instead of depriving myself, the natural high that comes with making better choices for myself and my family while simply saying "NO" to a “jiggly belly” allowed me to build the foundation of this brand.

How will you continue to amplify your voice?

I recently started hosting boot camps at Klyde Warren Park every Monday at 6 pm in collaboration with one of my favorite gyms, Core Fitness Dallas, and I am loving it. They are FREE and seeing people come out there and push themselves to the limit while being able to introduce them to some of my favorite products via our swag bags have been so much fun! I really want to let 2017 be the year I stepped out of my comfort zone and really started to interact with the people that follow my blog. It is easy to be me behind a computer screen but that face-to-face contact is an area that I am striving to improve on. Hopefully, I can host more events and just build a stronger relationship with the people that are invested in my brand and are interested in what I bring to the table.
