we recently spoke with JAMISHA DANIELS OF IT MUST BE JAM  to learn how she is amplifying her voice through her brand.

My voice deserves to be heard because....

..My voice deserves to be heard because I want to help others on their journey and share stories of trials and triumph.

When I finally gave my notice to start my own business, that's when I truly found my voice..

When did you find your voice?

I think I found my voice earlier on, maybe between the ages of 6-9. I come from a small town that's predominately white and I've always been the overly talkative little black girl. Because of that, I've always felt as if I was trying to be silenced during my early years. I think having confidence in yourself and understanding your self-worth is imperative in life especially when creating a brand. If you don't trust yourself then who will? I've always had a passion for news and hosting, it's honestly all I know. My passion came when I found my voice and understood that no one was in control of my destiny but me.

Did your upbringing shape who you are today?

Absolutely! I've always been super talkative and used humor as a window into people. I used to write little poems and stories when I was younger as a hobby, I never considered myself a "writer" until I saw how much my family and friends enjoyed reading it. My family has always encouraged me to stay positive and follow my heart.

Describe your journey? What was your defining moment?

My journey has been about building confidence around my ideas and understanding that I am enough. My defining moment hasn’t come just yet, but if I had to choose one it would be seeing Oprah at Essence Fest 2016. Her speech moved me to tears.

Advice to someone in search of finding their voice in the entrepreneurial, influencer and creative space.

Never doubt yourself and trust your crazy ideas. Whatever idea you have, write it down, sometimes it may not come together immediately, but if you work and perfect your craft it will always align in due time.

Who is_______?

I am a writer, a friend, a hustler, a black girl trying to make magic. I chose ItMustBeJam to be the "online happy hour" because happy hour is one of the places where we all go to have a good time and congregate over different topics. We talk about work, love, friendships, dreams, goals and so much more. It provides a breath of fresh air to your day and that's why I want my website to be. Libation. Conversation. Celebration. That's the tag line, and I hope the content reflects that as well.

How will you continue to amplify your voice?

I am in the midst creating a podcast to expand my voice and reach a larger and broader audience. I want for it to be the voice of the website that allows me to vocalize my thoughts and content outside of the articles provided on the web.
