IS THIS MIC ON CAMPAIGN SUPPORTER: TAWANA ANDERSON
we recently spoke with Tawana Anderson of SHINE to learn how she is amplifying her voice through her brand.
My voice deserves to be heard because....
I survived and what would have broken some people made me stronger. Becoming a parent of twin boys at 16, statistically I'm not suppose to be where I am today.
“I found my voice when I read “…And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same” ~ Authored and published by Marianne Williamson In that moment I decided that I didn't want to dim my light and my voice deserve to be heard.”
What does finding your voice mean to you?
I found my voice when I read “…And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same” ~ Authored and published by Marianne Williamson In that moment I decided that I didn't want to dim my light and my voice deserve to be heard. I knew that I had to share that with others and encourage them to shine their light. Most of the time we walk around being amazing and have no idea how amazing we are. I want to be that person that reminds others of their strength. I want them to look at me and say if she can do it so can I. It's a good feeling to see people shining their lights bright because of me.
Did your upbringing shape who you are today?
Yes, because my mom always made me feel like I could do anything. So in my mind I can't fail.
Describe your journey? What was your defining moment?
My journey started off really slow and low key. It wasn't until I started sharing with others about SHINE and seeing them get excited about it, then I knew I had something that was worth sharing.
Advice to someone in search of finding their voice in the entrepreneurial, influencer and creative space.
First off be confident even when you are unsure. Follow those who you want to be like but don't compare, stay in your lane.
My name is Tawana Anderson at the age of 16, I became a teenage parent of twin boys. My life experiences have taught me a great deal, not only about choices and consequences, but also about learning to forgive myself and about moving forward beyond the pain. My mission is to encourage others to let go of the past and the pain, forgive yourself, and live in the present. There was a time in my life that I would dim my light because I thought people saw me as a teen parent no matter what I accomplished. I realized that I had to forgive myself and stop diming my light to make other comfortable. That's how SHINE (Stuff Happens It's Not The End) was born. In this, I have been able to realize my greatest accomplishments - two young men who could not be more beautiful inside and out and my life's purpose! Here I am! Ready to spread my message and share my purpose with you! I also want to show others that with hard work and dedication you can be successful and happy. Today both sons are engineering majors at LSU confirming that things can happen to you but, you have to keep SHINING.
How will you continue to amplify your voice?
I'm working on a book to share my SHINE story and working to turn SHINE into a lifestyle brand. I will continue to do conferences and I'm looking for opportunites to share SHINE in schools around the area and hopefully the world. It's important that I share my message all over the world because, who doesn't want to SHINE.
